They exist for all sorts of reasons and therefore do not fit into a neat definition or box that will give them ‘political leverage.
Another group within our community need exactly the same “accommodation and support” and unlike those that we currently house, the Australian Government will fund them.
Unlike our current resident population, the ‘boat people’ can be easily defined and identified and polarise our community on how they should be treated. We can house up to 80 people safely, comfortably and economically. Given the Australian Government is so bent on funding accommodation for displaced refugees, should we put up our hand and offer;
- Modern single level accommodation
- Security, TV, Fox, Internet
- The best freshly produced culturally appropriate food
- Easy reach of major shopping and transport
What should we do?? Nothing at the moment. We see that our accommodation is both appropriate and economical as part of the solution for accommodation for people at risk of homelessness in Australia, but the refugee thing is an interesting thought … are they really trying to convince us to house refugees as opposed to our current population.
